Areas of Support

Care for the Poor and Elderly

Mercy Foundation donors fund critical programs and services that otherwise would not be available to those who need housing, meals and other support to survive.

At Loaves & Fishes, 600 to 1,000 homeless guests are fed healthy, hot meals each day, and can safely shower and rest at the facility’s Friendship Park. Other programs on the Loaves & Fishes campus include Mustard Seed School, which offers homeless children a safe, nurturing learning environment; and Maryhouse, a daytime shelter for homeless women and children that provides short-term guidance to help them take the next step toward independence and self-sufficiency.

Both Bruceville Terrace and Mercy McMahon Terrace are licensed residential care facilities for the elderly that offer a modern approach to meeting the housing, social, and day-to-day needs of senior citizens in a homelike environment.

Mercy Beyond Borders links women and children in Sudan and other countries with U.S. resources to promote health, provide education and alleviate poverty. The ministry uses three methods proven effective in alleviating extreme poverty: 1) Educating women and girls; 2) Funding small entrepreneurial projects designed and implemented by the displaced women themselves; and 3) Promoting maternal and child health.

Regional volunteers from Mercy Volunteer Corps staff crucial administrative roles at Mercy ministries, such as Maryhouse and the Clean & Sober program at Loaves & Fishes. Funded by Mercy Foundation donors, volunteers provide a tangible service to the community that keep these programs running efficiently.
