Loaves & Fishes Maryhouse Program receives grant
American River Bankshares Foundation Funds Five Local Organizations that Serve the Most Vulnerable Women and Children in Our Community
Sacramento, CA, Dec. 12, 2007 – The American River Bankshares (AMRB) Foundation today announced its 2007 grant recipients, awarding a total of $65,000 to five local non-profit organizations serving Amador, Placer, Sacramento or Sonoma Counties.
“As the communities in Sacramento, Placer, Sonoma and Amador Counties continue to grow in record numbers, so do the needs of the most vulnerable women & children in those communities,” said David T. Taber, President of the American River Bankshares Foundation.
“This year, the Foundation sought to fund organizations and programs that provide assistance to those in crisis situations or that can intervene with at-risk populations before they head down the road toward crisis.”
The AMRB Foundation’s 2007 grant recipients are as follows:
Assistance League of Sacramento in Sacramento County will receive $10,000 to support Operation School Bell, a program that provides new school clothing, underwear, shoes and other appropriate school items to economically disadvantaged children kindergarten through six grade.
Boys & Girls Club of Healdsburg in Sonoma County will receive $15,000 to support SMART Girls, a program designed to encourage healthy attitudes and lifestyles in early adolescent girls.
Chicks in Crisis in Sacramento County will receive $15,000 to support its mission of providing emergency assistance to women in crisis situations who are facing an unplanned or unwanted pregnancy.
Hospice of Amador in Amador County will receive $15,000 to support Griefbusters, a program that provides support to grieving children and enables them to move forward with their lives.
Maryhouse (a program of Sacramento Loaves & Fishes) in Sacramento County will receive $10,000 to support its Breakfast Program, which gives homeless women and children the opportunity to start each day with a hot, full meal.
The mission of the AMRB Foundation is to support organizations that create opportunity, enhance self-esteem and provide physical and emotional well-being for the most vulnerable women and children. Proposals were accepted to fund either the general operations of an organization’s mission or a specific program relating to women and children. Each proposal is vetted by a volunteer employee committee, which then recommends a list of ten applicants for funding consideration to the Foundation’s Board of Directors.
