Providing a Home Away from Home for Patients and Families in Need for Years to Come
Local construction partners, donors and volunteers help make renovation possible
Sacramento, CA, February 20, 2009 — Mercy General Hospital and Mercy Foundation announce the re-opening of the House of Mercy on 3940 J Street to continue providing Mercy hospitality to patients and families in need for years to come.
“We are excited to be able to re-open the improved and more comfortable House of Mercy to our patients and families during their time of need.” said Denny Powell, Mercy General Hospital President.
For more than 20 years, the House of Mercy has been providing a home away from home for families, who otherwise cannot afford hotel accommodations, while their loved one is receiving care at Mercy General Hospital. The House also provides a place of respite for out-of-area patients who are recovering or receiving ongoing treatment at the hospital. A typical stay costs as low as $20 per room, per night. However, no one is every turned away based on inability to pay.
Mercy Foundation received more than $120,000 in contributions and in-kind services for the House of Mercy renovation project. From fresh paint and new furniture, to improved plumbing and electrical work, local construction partners, donors and volunteers help bring the House of Mercy to today’s standards and style.
“We believe that in good times and bad, we really have to step up,” said John Orr, President of North State Building Industry Foundation. “This eminently worthwhile project is an opportunity for us to really perform a great service to the community – to lend a helping hand and enable Mercy to continue supporting patients and families in need.”
Other key community partners include Homes by Towne, Awakening In Him Ministry, Wilkins Construction and Jodi King of Artistic Interior Redesign.
An open house and self-guided tour of the House of Mercy is available on Tuesday, February 24 from 3 to 6 p.m.
