Mercy General Hospital

As Sacramento’s first private hospital, Mercy General Hospital has a long history of providing healing that encompasses body, mind and spirit. In its current location since 1925, the hospital has grown with its East Sacramento community to become one of the area’s most comprehensive medical centers with nearly 800 physicians and 342 beds. Each year, patients make more than 34,000 visits to Mercy General.
Mercy General Hospital has received national recognition for its patient care, listed three times among the nation’s “100 Top Hospitals” and named as the premier cardiac provider in the greater Sacramento region and one of the top in the nation. In 2002, Sacramento businessman Alex G. Spanos, a former heart patient, gave a generous gift of $15 million to help build a state-of-the-art heart and vascular center to better serve Mercy’s large number of cardiac patients. Today, the new cutting-edge center is being built. (Learn more about the Alex G. Spanos Heart & Vascular Center Capital Campaign and how you can get involved in this significant project and help keep our region on the forefront of exceptional cardiovascular care.)
While known nationally for its cardivascular program, Mercy General Hospital is also a leader in other areas, setting national standards for stroke care and performing more eye procedures than any other outpatient facility in California. To maintain this leadership, Mercy physicians and researchers are continuously involved in national clinical trails aimed at providing valuable data on cuttingedge medicines and devices, with a special emphasis on cardiac, stroke and ophthalmology. Your support is a vital component in the ability of Mercy General Hospital to go “above and beyond” the standard level of care and to continue to meet the needs of a growing community.
