Sacramento Loaves & Fishes

Caring for the poor is at the core of all the ministries of the Sisters of Mercy. Throughout the years, the name Mercy has been associated with helping to feed the hungry, providing shelter for families, ensuring medicine for the poor and offering healthcare for those in need, regardless of their ability to pay.
Sacramento Loaves & Fishes is a private sector, charitable organization dedicated to feeding the hungry and sheltering the homeless. Here, homeless men, women and children can receive comprehensive services, including short and long-term shelter, nutritious meals, hot showers, clean clothes, counseling and mental health services, medical screenings, legal help and education in a clean, safe and welcoming environment. Unlike other nonprofits of its kind, Loaves & Fishes does not solicit nor accept government funds giving the ministry more flexibility to advocate for and address the needs of those most vulnerable in our community.
For more than 25 years, Loaves & Fishes has been providing a safe haven for families in need. While some are homeless due to addiction or mental illness, the majority of those who seek services are people who were met with a series of unfortunate events that left them with no home, no food, no job and no hope. Between January to July 2009, Loaves & Fishes saw a 15% increase in the number of homeless families seeking basic needs like shelter, food, water and clothing. With an ever increasing need for the continuum of services it provides, Loaves & Fishes’ facilities are packed and resources are needed more than ever.
Your gift will help provide food, clothing, water - necessities and support services to help homeless men, women and families get back on their feet.
