Mercy Beyond Borders

Co-founded by Sister Marilyn Lacey, RSM and supported by Mercy Foundation, Mercy Beyond Borders works to link U.S. resources with displaced women and children living in extreme poverty overseas.
Home to one-quarter of the world’s displaced people, Southern Sudan is a priority for Mercy Beyond Borders. After 21 years of war, two million people are dead and another 4 million people are displaced. The lack of adequate nutrition, shelter, clean water and medicine make it almost impossible to survive. Nearly half the population struggles to survive on less than $1 a day and among them, the most vulnerable are women and children displaced by war.
The Sisters of Mercy are committed to reaching out to those in need and responding with long-term solutions that encourage self-respect and, more importantly, self-sufficiency. Mercy Beyond Borders uses two proven methods to alleviate extreme poverty: educating women and girls and funding small entrepreneurial projects designed and implemented by the displaced women themselves.

Your gift will help give these displaced women the tools to take initiative and work to lift their families up from extreme poverty.
