Joe Orsak Joins Mercy Foundation


Sacramento, May 27, 2009 – Joe Orsak joins Mercy Foundation as Chief Philanthropy Officer, where he is responsible for planning, managing and implementing philanthropic activities at Mercy General Hospital, including the Alex G. Spanos Heart & Vascular Center capital campaign. Orsak’s responsibilities include assisting donors achieve their philanthropic goals by matching their passions to the needs of Mercy General Hospital and the works of the Sisters of Mercy.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to successfully complete the Alex G. Spanos Heart & Vascular Center capital campaign and look forward to building new philanthropic relationships and opportunities for giving that will benefit our patients and the community we serve.” said Orsak.

Mercy General Hospital, recently designated as a “Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care” by Blue Cross/Blue Shield, possesses many centers of excellence including its nationally-recognized cardiac and vascular program, the leading retina surgery program in the west, a highly-acclaimed neurosciences and acute rehabilitation program, as well as clinical excellence in orthopedic surgery, emergency care and obstetrics.

Orsak brings more than 30 years of professional fundraising experience to his position. Previously the owner of The Bevo Group, Orsak served as a consultant for not-for-profits in the areas of marketing, board education, feasibility studies, planned giving, development audits, major gifts, special events, capital campaigns and financial compliance. Orsak also served as the President and CEO of South Coast Medical Center Foundation in Laguna Beach, California for 15 years. Under his guidance, South Coast Medical Center Foundation’s assets grew from $500,000 to nearly $16 million, excluding planned gifts.

In his career, Orsak has directed several capital campaigns with goals ranging from $3 million to $125 million and has earned the Association of Healthcare Philanthropy’s designation of Fellow (FAHP), the top level of achievement in the field of healthcare resource development.
