Mercy Foundation Hires New Director of Communications and Chief Philanthropy Officer

SACRAMENTO, April 7, 2010 – Rebecca Thompson and Michelle Silva have joined the staff of Mercy Foundation, the fundraising entity for the local Mercy hospitals and ministries of the Sisters of Mercy in the greater Sacramento region.

 
Rebecca Thompson is the new Chief Development Officer for Mercy San Juan Medical Center, located in Carmichael. She will be responsible for planning and managing all fundraising activities to raise philanthropic support and community awareness for comprehensive programs and services at the medical center.

Thomson brings more than 14 years of fund development experience in the areas of major gift fundraising, planned giving, annual giving, corporate and foundation relations, board development and communications. Prior to joining Mercy Foundation, Thompson served as the Executive Director of University Advancement for California State University Sacramento’s Development.


 
Michelle Silva is the new Director of Communications for Mercy Foundation, where she is responsible for developing and implementing strategic communications to enhance the Foundation’s visibility, reputation and community impact.

Silva has more than 15 years of communications and marketing experience, with an emphasis on development, Web and internal communications. Prior to joining Mercy Foundation, Silva was Director of Development Communications and Marketing for the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, where she developed the school’s first case for support. She also has managed fundraising and internal communications at UC Davis Health System as a Senior Public Information Officer.
