Body Cast Auction Benefits Friends of NICU

News 10: Dale Schornack's Report, May 14, 2008

In April, an orthopedic team from Mercy San Juan Medical Center wrapped up Channel 31 Entertainment Reporter Mark S. Allen in a full body cast. The body cast was up for auction on eBay and money raised from the auction was donated to the Friends of the NICU, a program supported by Mercy Foundation. The final bid was $1,525 to benefit families with baby/babies in the NICU.

About Friends of NICU
Mercy’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) has provided family-centered care to thousands of infants needing specialized services. The Purkis Family experienced the NICU first-hand in January of 2006, when their twin boys, Ryan and Matthew were born 10 weeks prematurely. They spent many weeks in the NICU and with the help of friends, family, doctors and nurses, they are doing great today.

Tim and Elanie Purkis felt very fortunate to have had such great support from friends and family during this difficult time and they also realized that not everyone was as fortunate to live so close or to have the same supports in place. Partnering with Mercy Foundation, the Friends of NICU program was formed to provide a lift, a helping hand to those families with baby/ babies in the NICU so that parents can focus more time and energy on their baby/babies.
