Making a Difference
Everyday, Mercy Foundation reaches out and touches the lives of those in need. Whether a child needs educational assessment so that he can maximize his potential in school; a father recovering from a heart procedure so that he can spend more anniversaries with his family; or an elderly woman who simply needs a senior home so that she can live her life independently with dignity and grace; Mercy is there. Through the generosity of our donors, Mercy Foundation is able to fulfill our mission and continue to make a difference. Here are a few stories from those have been touched by Mercy.

Tina and Nicholas
Nicholas was struggling in school since the first grade. Tina tried many things to help her son, but nothing seemed to work.
When Tina found out about the Mercy Education Resource Center, she didn't hesitate to contact us. Mercy Education provided a specialize educational assessment and was able to understand Nicholas' learning difficulties. Nicholas has been tutoring for the past three years and continues to improve in school.
"I am impressed that so many people care and give and have the ability to give to help someone out. Mercy Education fills a vital gap in our lives but also in our community." said Tina.

George
On the morning of August 5, 2007, George was sitting in his living room when all of a sudden his arm fell off the arm rest and his leg felt numb. Immediately, George knew he had a stroke. Caused by a blocked vessel, the stroke paralyzed his entire left side. But, as a disabled veteran, cardiac survivor, and retired firefighter, George was determined to walk again.
“I can’t thank the therapists and staff at Methodist Hospital’s Rehabilitation Department enough for providing me with excellent service. Thank you to all of the donors who have contributed to helping the hospital purchase better equipment for patients so that we can have the best chance possible for a full recovery.”

Deanna and Zachary
Every week, Deanna places the red cap on her baby and takes a photo to see how much he’s grown. Born prematurely, little Zachary was only one pound ten ounces.
The Friends of NICU, a program supported by Mercy Foundation, provides a helping hand to those families with baby/babies in the Mercy San Juan Medical Center’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit so that parents can focus more time and energy on their baby/babies.
“There’s no other place I want to care for me and my baby than here at Mercy. They take great care of us. The Friends of NICU have helped us by providing gas cards, food vouchers and a stroller. Thanks.”

Carol
Born with a heart murmur, Carol is especially in tune with her body and health. But, there were no warning signs; no major symptoms. It was the expert staff and physicians at Mercy that prompted her to seek specialized medical attention.
“I had a severely blocked artery that was threatening my health and function. My doctor said I was ’a ticking bomb...a stroke waiting to happen.’ It was the affordable vascular screening that detected the blocked artery and the excellent surgery staff that saved my life. Thanks for giving me a second chance for a vibrant life.”
Recognized as a Top 100 Hospital in the nation, Mercy General Hospital is able to continue to meet the needs of our growing community because of the faithful support of our donors.
